NORTHERN CAPE GIVE REASONS

The North Cape Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church has clear reasons given in a pastoral letter why the proposed changes to Article 1 of the Church Order (which would allow for Belhar confession as optional) is rejected.

Here is an excerpt from their pastoral letter:

The synod - without consulting him about the nature or content of the Belhar Confession - the proposed amendment to Article 1 of the Church Order, among others, for the following reasons not approved:

1. The proposed kompromisvoorstel seek to please men rather than to want to be faithful to Scripture.

2. The proposed amendment out learning freedom in the Church's order in, contrary to Scripture and the Three Forms of Unity, because it allows the option to accept a confession or not to accept. The implication is that it itself with the other articles of faith have to apply and / or further confessions - according to the desire of members - to the confessions of the church added may / may / should be.

3. In addition, it enables the church to the so-called quatenus-position instead of the reformed quia-position. The former is often in the history strongly rejected by the church. Ned. Reformed.Church in Northern Cape accept the confessions because it is consistent with Scripture, not as far as or if (in the opinion / randomness of members) in accordance with the Scriptures.

4. The proposed amendment is in conflict with the Dutch. Reformed.Church's confession of faith and the Bible.
